This article aims to provide a reflection on the behavior of high school students toward the educational institution’s teaching of film in France. It seems that since the last twenty years, the relationship of high school students to culture is increasingly stretched and distant. As demonstrated by the work of Olivier Donnat or Francois Dubet in France in the 1990s, the students take a previously unseen stance in face of the dominant culture that the school presents as legitimate. After a brief overview of the opportunities for teaching film studies in French high schools, this article aims to explore, through a sociological and sociopragmatic approach, the behavior of students – and teachers – to them.
