Vers un « Nouveau Hollywood »? Considérations sur la métalepse dans le cinéma populaire contemporain

Abstract

This article aims to put forward possible reflections on the role of metalepsis within the growing narrative complexity manifested in contemporary mainstream cinema. As a trope largely discussed inside the field of narratology, the study of metalepsis within the field of film studies is somewhat rare, despite its important role in the elaboration of complex narrative strategies developed by avant-garde cinema, and gradually recuperated by mainstream cinema. Therefore the goal of this article is twofold: firstly it aims to define characteristics and manifestations of metalepsis within the cinema; it then also tries to establish the pertinence of a cinematic study of metalepsis, as well as its (sometimes) problematic relation to reflexivity.
